She has influential relatives. Her uncle was a top official of the Anglican Church.

He had been arranging for her to go abroad and study nursing. I told her, “Nursing, why nursing? You are not the calibre for nursing.’’ She went to St. Anne’s School, Ibadan one of the best girls’ secondary schools at the time. I persuaded her that she could pass the entrance examination into University College, Ibadan rather than going abroad to study nursing. I gave her the materials I used. She studied hard and passed the examination.

She was one of the two girls that passed the examination that year. She came to Ibadan to study English and we graduated same day. I didn’t want her to enter the university the way I did. I told her to take some subjects in A level after the offer of admission. She passed the two subjects and showed it those in the university’s academic department when she got to the school. They told her that in that case, she would not be as a freshman. She was placed two years ahead other freshmen and we were on the same level. Julia, my wife, is vey brilliant. We chose to marry on the anniversary of Nigeria’s independence. God has blessed the marriage. We have seven children; five boys and two girls. Some are in Nigeria while others are abroad."
