Major-General Rabe Abubakar joined the Nigerian army and was commissioned into the Nigerian Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1989.
Since commissioning, Major General Rabe Abubakar Batsari had held several Command and Staff appointments some of which include: Coordinator Joint Media Centre at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force Operation in the Niger Delta; Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI) Lagos; and Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, Nigerian Army Welfare Limited.
Rabe Abubakar was a lieutenant Colonel of the Nigerian Army in 2008 when he was the coordinator of the then newly created Joint Media Campaign Centre, JMCC, of the Joint Task Force, JTF, ‘Operation Restore Hope’, in Effurun Barracks, Delta State.
In August 2015, Rabe Abubakar was appointed as the new Director of Defence Information of the Nigerian Army by the President Muhammadu Buhari's administration to replace major general Chris Olukolade.
He served between between 2015 and 2017.
He was one of the military’s most prominent spokespersons and played a key role in communicating the Armed Forces’ counterinsurgency and national security operations during his years in service.
His hobbies include Jogging, Badminton and reading.

Education
Rabe Abubakar is a graduate of History. He holds First School Leaving Certificate, Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) and Bachelor of Arts Degree in History.
Major General Rabe Abubakar Batsari completed his Secondary education, and proceeded to obtain his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and was later commissioned into the Nigerian Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1989.
He attended several courses which include Company Amphibious Course and National Defence College, China.
Kidnap
Major General Rabe Abubakar Batsari and his wife Hajiya Amina Abubakar were kidnapped by bandits on 30th of May 2026 along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in Matazu Local Government Area in Katsina. They were travelling in a red Peugeot 504 saloon car when they were waylaid by armed men along the route. The driver, Abdullahi Sa’idu, escaped with g0nshot injuri£s and is currently receiving medical attention.
Bandit leader, Kachallah Muhammad, contacted family and relatives of the abducted retired senior military officer, Major General Rabe Abubakar Batsari. Kachallah Muhammad demands the release of his relatives being held by Nigerian security authorities.
He said what he wants is the immediate release of his relatives in government custody.
