Who is Derrick Abu?
Derrick Abu is a young Nigerian footballer who is based abroad, England and plays for Chelsea.

Derrick Abu is a highly-rated Chelsea right-back  who had made himself available for selection for the Nigeria youth teams though he is eligible to represent England at international level.

The skillful fullback wanted to play for the Golden Eaglets at the 2019 U17 World Cup but failed to establish contact with the Nigeria Football Federation and coach Manu Garba.

Abu won't be age-eligible to play for the Nigeria U17s at the World Cup a year from now, so the best bet was for him to be invited to the Flying Eagles if approached by the Nigerian Federation.

Born December 18, 2003, the defender, who has been likened to Liverpool and England starlet Trent Alexander-Arnold, is eligible to sign scholarship forms with Chelsea before the start of the 2020-2021 season.

One of the hottest young prospects at the Chelsea Academy, Abu was included in The Blues matchday squad for the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the U18 Premier League Cup.

Derrick Abu Sign Deals With Chelsea Alongside Other Nigerians, Kelechi Chibueze and Prince Adegoke (July 2020)

Chelsea has announced their new intake of academy scholars, with three Nigerian starlets making the cut.

According to a statement on the club’s website, they are goalkeepers Kelechi Chibueze and Prince Adegoke as well as defender .

They have all been offered scholarships for the 2020/2021 season.

The three Nigerians signed their contracts in a socially-distanced signing session at Cobham this week.

“All players in their Under-17 year are required to start the season on a scholarship agreement before they are permitted to sign a first professional football contract on or after their 17th birthday,” part of the statement read.

Only Adegoke, 16, has been officially invited to train with the Golden Eaglet.

However, he could not travel because of the club and educational commitments.

Abu, Adegoke and Chibueze have been promoted to Chelsea under-18 squad for the 2020/2021 campaign.
